Spiced Gewürztraminer Cranberry Sauce Recipe

Spiced Gewürztraminer Cranberry Sauce
No Thanksgiving dinner table is complete without the Cranberry Sauce.  It’s tradition after all!  But this year we’ve decided to spice things up… literally! Simmering the sauce with a blend of aromatic spices and combining with the Gewürztraminer wine adds layers of flavor to this classic turkey companion. If you want a simple and easy way to take your Thanksgiving dinner to new palate-pleasing heights and really impress your guests… start with the sauce!

12oz bag fresh or frozen cranberries
½ cup light brown sugar
¼ cup molasses
Zest and juice of one orange
⅔ cup Gewürztraminer wine
1 cinnamon stick
⅛ tsp grated nutmeg
¼ tsp black peppercorns
¼ tsp allspice berries
¼ tsp cloves
1 tsp salt

Tie up peppercorns, allspice, and cloves into a sachet using either cheesecloth, coffee filter or a tea bag.

Put all the ingredients into a heavy bottom saucepan and tuck in the spice sachet. Bring to a boil over high heat, then drop the heat to a simmer and continue to cook, stirring occasionally, until cranberries begin to pop and the mixture thickens – about 15-20 mins.

Remove the cinnamon stick and spice sachet. Pour the cranberry sauce into a bowl and set on the counter to cool to room temperature. Serve immediately, or refrigerate until ready to use.
