Chenin Blanc with Pascaline Lepeltier

Chenin Blanc with Pascaline Lepeltier 1080 1080 Wine4Food

Have you heard the gospel of Chenin Blanc lately? If you haven’t, then you have to tune into this episode of FOLLOW THAT SOMM! We caught up with Pascaline Lepeltier in February 2017 to learn about this well-known but little-understood varietal, and come up with a pairing that matches its delicious blend of minerality and acidity.

Pascaline Lepeltier is one of the 158 Master Sommeliers in the world and, as we note in this episode, the 21st female sommelier to ever earn the distinction. We caught up with her at Rouge Tomate in Chelsea, but she has since moved on to become a partner at Racines restaurant. We’re sure the wine list is incredible.

This episode details the tasting notes in Chenin Blanc, and our second episode goes into pairing flavors. We explore the region of the Loire through the Chenin Blanc grape, and tour Pascaline’s wine cellar at Rouge Tomate, which is made with actual limestone from the region. This is a great episode to watch even if you’ve only tried Chenin Blanc from other regions such as South Africa; there’s so much to learn about the Loire’s unique expression of terroir and the way it changes the style of wine. You will definitely want to pick one up!

Thanks to Rouge Tomate for allowing us to film in their space, and thanks to Pascaline Lepeltier and Executive Chef Andy Bennett for showing us this amazing pairing. Note: This episode aired in February, 2017. Pascaline has since moved on from Rouge Tomate and is now a partner at Racines restaurant.
