Olive oil is a must-have in any food-lover’s kitchen, but how can you be sure you’re buying the best olive oil? Today we are joined by international olive oil expert Nicholas Coleman of Grove and Vine to learn some tips on finding the best oil on the shelf.
When we say Nicholas Coleman is an olive oil expert, we mean it. He is an instructor on the subject at the prestigious International Culinary Center, and a frequent traveler to olive oil regions around the world. His company Grove and Vine sells olive oil that has been harvested within 6 months, which requires Nicholas to go to both the Northern and Southern hemispheres for his tasting and sourcing. He literally chases the harvest around the globe, and we are psyched he made a stop to talk to us about tasting and buying olive oil.
If you’ve ever wondered what an oleologist is, this episode has the answer! Not to mention info on olive cultivars, simple ways to spot great olive oil on the shelf, and facts on the importance of freshness in olive oil. And stay tuned for a future episode with Nicholas where we explore the tasting notes of high quality olive oil, discover the tasting method called strippagio, and highlight some of the ways that you can discern if your olive oil of choice is up to snuff.
