WINE WEDNESDAY: 2013 Plavina, North Dalmatia 150 150 David Rosengarten

2013 Plavina, North Dalmatia, Croatia ($12.99)

Ivica Pilizota Plavina 2013From Croatia, original home of Zinfandel, comes this surprisingly light and fruity red. The reason behind the wine’s grace: the Plavina grape, perpetual Croatian underdog! The other, heartier Croatian grapes—Plavac Mali, Babic—get much more international love. Not from me: I’m always a fan of lightness and elegance! Medium ruby-garnet look. The youth shows in the nose: fresh young red fruit, not overly ripe, just a suggestion of strawberries. Delicious, lively, refreshing wine, with zingy but not over-the-top acidity.

Wine4Food

Great food wine! Serve it slightly chilled with all kinds of eats: charcuterie, salumi, salads, light meat dishes, etc.
